Sohre - MAKRIA

Album Notes

Makria is Greek for far/beyond and the music speaks of distant travels. Chris Sohre's most recent journey led her to the UK and Greece. Makria was released in September 2000. Sharing similar genre with her first CD, Who Will Know, (a sprinkling of neo-classical, funky jazz, and moody folk), this time African rhythms and Middle Eastern melodies are introduced into Sohre's compositions.
Natural sound effects are also woven into some of the themes and invite you to go on a visual journey through exotic scenery before returning home to an intimate final song. Jim McCarty (original drummer for The Yardbirds) and Karen Gheorghiu (player with Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention) are showcased on several cuts. McCarty's son Simon (percussionist of Tribal Earth), Nikos Tourbis (drummer/percussionist for several well-known groups in Thessaloniki ), Dimitris Kakos (bassist for Xaxakes) and Carl Dexter (producer at DreamKitchen Studio) form the nucleus around Sohre, who plays guitar, piano, accordion, flute, clarinet, harmonium, organ, percussion and vocals.

Chris arranged and recorded Makria in Greece, London and Olympia, WA for Fleeting Echoes Ltd.
She, along with John Herchenrider and Carl Dexter (who further completed the mastering) mixed and produced Makria .
