Bio

DreamKitchen is Laureen Brian, Carl Dexter and Jim Eagan; a reclusive trio that has been playing together for more than 20 years. "Well, if they're any good why haven't I heard of them." Glad you asked. They were almost famous a couple of times over.

First time was awhile back (7 years or so), when you were just a kid. Won a contest to create a jingle for Raineer Beer. Got paid, got played on the radio in 5 states for about 9 months, and were slated to create a video for MTV when the ad campaign fell apart. Still if you listen to any beer ad out now that features an alternative band you can say to yourself "I know where this all started", because we were the first. Don't believe me? Click here.

Second time was about 3 years ago. Tom Hanks was looking for music that sounded like it was a hit in 1964 to go with the film "That Thing You Do" and chose a song we submitted. Unfortunately the scene the song was pegged to got cut. Don't really know what to think about that. On one hand we missed a deal with a major record company. On the other hand we don't have to worry about telling anyone that Tom Hanks discovered us. Fair enough. Care to hear the song?

Besides these major moments of fame and glory we've shared an award with video producer Carol Burns for her video of "Dancing on the Fountain" and we are the only band from around here to have been bootlegged in India (truth, I swear). Met a DJ from New Delhi on the train to Madras and he asked me for a copy of our tape. Turns out he loved the song "What Can I Do" and wanted to make a modest number of copies (ie 5,000) of our first tape for distribution in India. Didn't think any more about it until I was working in Bethesda with a programmer from New Delhi who swore that he'd already heard the song before I gave him the tape. Hey, does that make us internationally famous? Or internationally obscure?

We're currently working on our fourth release and playing occasionally around town. Besides working on our own material we have been involved with numerous other projects with friends including producing and backing up people like Chris Sand and Senayit. - carl
